TUCSON LIVING EDUCATION

A Charlotte Mason Cottage School supporting homeschool families in Tucson, Arizona.

Our Vision

Tucson Living Education is about building a community of Christian homeschool families who want to use Charlotte Mason’s philosophy and method in their homes.

People new to and experienced in the Charlotte Mason method are welcome! We know everyone is in a different place in their homeschool journey, and we want to be a means of encouraging each other at all stages.

Tuesday Drop-Off

Our Program

  • A day that allows students to build friendships and grow as they enjoy a Charlotte Mason education with other students.

  • A day for Charlotte Mason educators to get help with subjects better taught in a group setting.

  • Park days consist of formal nature study, followed by an informal lunch and play time.

  • Hike days provide an informal time out in nature.

  • Both days provide opportunities for moms and students to build friendships and community,

  • Tucson Living Education is a Christian non-profit school established by Charlotte Mason educators passionate about her philosophy and building a community with like-minded homeschoolers.

  • Our school is for students in Grades 1-8, with the goal of expanding into high school down the road.

The Details

Subjects taught on Tuesdays are stand-alone subjects and will be implemented using Charlotte Mason's principles and methods.

We will not use one specific curriculum, allowing easy adaptations to various Charlotte Mason curricula.

Some subjects will correspond with the historical time period of 1650-1800. There will be no homework assignments.

The Tuesday drop-off program is located near Reid Park Zoo.

Students will bring a backpack with a few standard school supplies and lunch each week. All other materials will be provided.

Biweekly Outdoor Days

Every other Friday, students and their families will participate in outdoor days, which entail the following.

Formal Nature Study Park Days

  • Object lessons related to the student's special studies (natural history about the Sonoran Desert).

  • Time to share lunch together and enjoy some free time outdoors.

  • The park we will meet at is in Central Tucson.

Informal Hiking Days

  • Short hikes around Tucson with a focus on enjoying outdoor time together.

  • At least one hike each semester will be stroller-friendly.

We will meet for twelve weeks each semester, as opposed to three terms per year, like Charlotte Mason's schools, for the following reasons.

  • We can slow some subjects' pacing, allowing deeper study.

  • We anticipate that this first year will be a big learning curve and want to guard against burnout.

  • We can take a long break from Thanksgiving into the new year, allowing more time for family during the busy holiday season.

Tuition is $2,000 per student.
